(no subject)

Three sentences thing with randomized pairings. All relatively safe (aside from the seventh but it's nothing too explicit), and only the second is a sequel of the first. Otherwise, they're all unrelated.

the first

Placido knows something's missing the moment the 'high' of getting the Diablo army built and perfected is gone, his gaze drifting over the multiple duelbots. It's why he takes one of them aside and for some reason, blue seems to suit it, so that's what he imagines it to be really wearing as he takes it's chin and tilts it this way and that, a finger from his other hand trailing down the exposed metal of it's throat. Yes, something's missing, and it bothers him a little more than he would like, and it makes him push the duelbot aside with a huff before he gets back to work.

the second

Bruno has no idea why he's even here, why he's Dark Glass, or why he's stumbled upon a discarded duelbot that's been wrenched from its D-Wheel, but it actually seems less abrasive than the counterparts he knows of. He - not it - seems much less so to the point that he helps Bruno leave and gets him out, because if Placido finds him, he's going to just be a sack of bolts like he should be. It pains him to hear that kind of talk, regardless of if this Diablo unit is created out of malice, and though he wonders how Yuusei would feel if he just brought home a duelbot, he decides against it - but not before telling him that he's done a very good thing and that he should leave, too.

the third

"I still don't quite get you," Aki tells him, and he's torn between looking surprised by that statement and just letting himself be amused by it.

"Yuusei doesn't either, does he?" Dark Glass asks in return, and he watches as she falls silent, head turning away to look at Neo Domino's finest duelist, and his gaze follows hers. Briefly, he wonders if Yuusei knows of the longing gaze Aki gives him, while trying to pretend his own doesn't exist for the sake of their friendship as long as he's Bruno.

the fourth

Taro's surprised to receive a letter from Rua, of all people, and he can't keep himself from recalling how adamant the young boy was to help make sure Team Taiyou remained in the WRGP, so as he tugs at the envelope, there's a fond sort of smile on his lips. The letter explains that he and his sister aren't in the city anymore, and the other members of Team 5D's have left too, which makes the smile fade a little (but he's still grateful that he and his teammates were thought of), though there's one thing that catches his eyes that makes him set down the letter and get to calling up Yoshizo and Jinbei. 'Bruno's gone too, but Yuusei stayed behind, so you all should go visit him; I'm sure he'd like the company.'

the fifth

When Carly had met Yoshizo, she couldn't help but be a little curious, so she asked him questions of just why he was such a big fan of Yuusei's. Of course, he tells her that it's because Yuusei always does his best in his duels even when things look tough for him, and Carly can't help but smile. Though they may not be the biggest fans of the same person, Carly sees a potential friend in this man, and his enthusiasm makes it easy to fall into a great friendship.
the sixth

Johnny hadn't ever expected to find a fourth person still alive, and even in his old age, he was still an excitable and... relatively (only slightly, really) over-emotional man. So once they'd gotten Aporia to where they would be staying, the other two had wandered off, leaving him alone with the new addition to their tight-knit group of friends as they searched for better clothing to start him off with.

"We're glad to have you here with us," Johnny says with a tired smile, but reaches out to take Aporia's forearm to give it a light squeeze, and he's relatively surprised (and pleased) when Aporia shifts to take Johnny's hand instead with a quiet 'thank you' as a response, and a tired smile in return.
the seventh

Even after the handshake, Yuusei isn't quite sure what to think of Jean, and in fact, he seems a little distracted as he tries to think on it (which he's very well aware that Bruno's at least noticed, with the way he put his hand on Yuusei's shoulder and leaned over to ask him if he was all right). His distraction follows him even to bed that night where his mind wanders and he dreams of just how else Jean's fingers may move when touching him, and it's a shame he can't stop his dreams in the first place, because they get out of hand and fast. Waking up with an erection and vaguely recalling Jean's touch is easily the most awkward thing to happen to Yuusei, and it's even more so when Bruno comes in to check on him with a sort of bewildered look on his face.

excerpt THREEEE

Adam nodded and bowed his head slightly. “You too, Candriss. Though I want a rematch once this tournament is over, alright?”

The redhead laughed softly and nodded. “Of course, Adam, assuming I last very long there.”

Oh stop that, Candriss. You’re deserving of blue right now with me, and yet you still expect to dress yourself in red,” he murmured, shaking his head as if thoroughly disappointed in her, and she couldn’t help but frown a little.

But… Adam, I—“

I won’t hear it anymore. How many times have you won out of the times we’ve dueled each other?”

Candriss hesitated and looked away, her head shaking in denial. “Flukes.”

All seven duels?” he asked incredulously, and she nodded. He sighed in frustration and threw his hands up in the air, but calmed down nearly instantly as he placed a hand on her shoulder. “Listen to me, Candy,” he started, his voice quiet as they walked off of the arena to let the next duelists come to duel for the last spot in the final 25 to be pitted against other students from all over the world. “You can stand here and tell me you’re unworthy of this spot until you’re blue in the face, but do you really think the Chancellor will stand for it?”

The redhead lowered her head to force her hair to cover her face, and Adam used his free hand to brush a bit of that hair behind her ear, causing her to flinch from the unusual contact that she simply wasn’t used to. It made her think of Marik and how close he’d gotten to her previously. “You’re better than you give yourself credit for, so why won’t you accept it already? If you were inadequate, do you think the Chancellor would have specifically gone out to look for you when you were of age to join the Academy?”

Again, Candriss was speechless as she turned her head away from Adam, and he sighed and let her go. “He only took pity on me because I was orphaned,” she murmured, and she heard Adam sigh heavily.

Hardly, Candy. Now go back to your dorm and get your things packed.”

She simply nodded and quietly left the staging area, her deck being pulled from the duel disk to be stuffed back into the pack at her thigh as the disk itself retracted into its ‘rested’ state. She had a feeling Adam would be constantly on her case about the entire situation until she realized just how good she was, but that would never happen.

When Candriss opened the door to her dorm, her facade went up immediately; it was usually so effective that it actually stopped being a mask to her after several minutes.

Candriss! We heard the news; congratulations!” one of her roommates shouted as she entered the room.

The redhead smiled and she looked a little embarrassed as she brushed some hair behind one of her ears. “I wasn’t really trying to win, though…” she trailed off, a bit flustered from the attention she was getting.

That doesn’t matter,” the tallest girl in the room said with a hand on her hip. “Emma and I already took to pulling out a few outfits of yours that you’ll absolutely need in Japan.” She glanced at the pile of clothes on Candriss’ bed. “Well, some of the pieces are from our own wardrobe, because we realized we really need to take you shopping with us at some point.”

Candriss blinked and stared at her roommate for a moment, then shook her head. “You… You didn’t have to, Kaleigh.”

Emma laughed from her closet, and then twirled around with a garment she held in her hands. “And we were going to keep this a surprise from you and wait for you to see it yourself when you unpacked, but… this is for in case you meet a boy while you’re there.”

The redhead examined the garment briefly, then instantly felt her face heat up. “Wha—Are you insane, Em? What makes you think I would even—“

It was Kaleigh’s turn to laugh then. “I told her that you wouldn’t need it, because you have yourself someone here, don’t you?”

A certain dark-skinned blond’s face flashed through Candriss’ mind as she turned to gawk at Kaleigh. “I-I do not! I am absolutely certain he holds n-no interest in me whatsoever. Besides, he’s nearly twice my age!”

Kaleigh and Emma looked at each other, and then began to giggle as they approached Candriss. “I was only teasing, but… you’re saying you have your eyes on someone?”

Who is it, Candy? Spill! Is it one of the professors?”

Candriss waved her hands in front of her and took a step back, head shaking in denial. “N-No! I would never think of dating a professor. He has much better things to do than teach here, anyway.”

Emma started bouncing in place. “Ooh! A successful businessman, then? A politician? C’mon Candyyy, tell us!”

At the distressed look on Candriss’ face, Kaleigh sighed and took Emma by the shoulders to drag her away and save the redhead from her assault of questions. “Come on, Em. Let’s not scare her into never seeing her man again, hm?”

Candriss remained silent after that as she made her way to her already half-packed suitcase, and just when she was about to start checking what was already inside of it, she found the skimpy piece of lingerie tossed into the suitcase, and her cheeks heated up once more. Don’t think about it, Candriss. Just tuck it away somewhere that you’ll forget about it and leave it at that. You will not meet anyone in Japan and you certainly will not wear that for—

But Kay… can I ask her if he’s foreign? What if he’s German or- ooh, French? Maybe she’s already met a Japanese guy and that’s why she dueled as well as she did? Ooooh, our little Candy won’t be a virgin anymo--”

Emma.”

Kaleigh?”

No.”

Okaaay.”

excerpt two lolol

The student fell to his knees as his remaining 400 Life Points were drained, but he stood back up after a moment and shook his head. “I knew going up against you was a bad idea,” he muttered as he left the arena, and Lyle collected his cards from his duel disk and walked away as the small crowd that had been watching cheered him on.

Lyle, that was a great duel!” he heard a familiar voice call out to him, and Lyle grinned, half-faking the smugness.

Not quite. I didn’t even get the final form of Horus onto the field. It was a waste of my time, really.”

Adam frowned at that. “Damn, Lyle. I didn’t think you’d be so cold about it.”

The taller male placed a hand on his shoulder. “You still can’t tell when I’m being serious, can you?” Lyle asked.

Lyle, you wear the same three expressions: a frown, a glare, or a smirk. Then there are the variations of those that I’m not even going to get into,” Adam went on. “You really think I can tell?”

Lyle stopped in his tracks and lowered his head slightly. “Do you want to see a genuine smile?” he asked, already beginning to think of something that would draw one on his lips.

Actually? Yes, I would. It probably looks hide—oh my goodness.” Lyle had lifted his head so Adam could see his smile, and had Adam been female or into men, he probably would have swooned. Keeping that in mind, the older student rushed forward and placed a hand over Lyle’s mouth. “Bloody hell, don’t let the girls see that; they’ll be all over you more than they are now, and then I’ll never get a chance.”

excerpt... thing

I don’t really get why she’s always so down on herself, you know, Lyle? She’s a great duelist, she’s intelligent and she can do anything she puts her mind to. It’s just that she doesn’t ever think she can. I mean, I used to be the same way, but once I got older, that…”

Adam’s voice trailed off. Or rather, Lyle’s attention diverted as he tuned Adam out once again. It was really all the Irish-born student ever heard from his supposed ‘best friend’. And while normally he wouldn’t tune out anything that was said around him, he always made an exception for these kinds of ‘conversations’, because he’d gotten so good at ignoring what was said about the object of Adam’s obvious affection and even better at picking up keywords that would be said that weren’t usually used when speaking of Candriss.

But then he heard ‘tournament’ and Lyle suddenly started listening again.

“… tournament, and I hope she takes part in it too. Even if she doesn’t make it to the top 25 of the Academy, it might do wonders for her self-confidence.”

Why haven’t you just asked her out?” Of course, Lyle asked that same question many times before, and it was always the same answer.

I can read girls, Lyle. She doesn’t like guys like me.” He paused and looked Lyle up and down – this was a variant from the norm. “I think she’s into guys like you.” He lifted his arm and started on a melodramatic rant on how life was just so unfair and that it never pays to be the ‘good guy’. Lyle tried to ignore this as well, but it didn’t work because suddenly, there was a finger shoved in his face.

And you! What’s so bloody great about you, anyway? You’re my best friend and all, but how is it that you have the women just swooning over you when you glare at them? How much sense does that even make, really?”

Lyle rolled his eyes as he crossed his arms over his chest, his eyes on a group of girls passing by. The three girls all made eye contact with him, and he narrowed his eyes, only to see the three of them skip a beat in their steps, then quickly duck their heads low to hide their flushed faces before taking off, chattering away about the dark-haired male. “See what I mean, Lyle? Girls love you,” Adam sputtered, and when Lyle looked back at him, he couldn’t help but chuckle.

I’m going to get ready for this tournament,” he said as he turned away from Adam. “See you in the top 25, if you’re lucky enough.”

Lyle! I’m just as good as you!”

Another chuckle. “Sure you are,” he called over his shoulder as he walked back to his dorm.
